Hi Tami
I tried to transport this topic over to Mind & Soul's 'Enduring Faith' topic until interest waned.
The disciplines of nonscience and psuedoscience if they are truly disciplines, are very helpful in quality control...as is anecdotal evidence like Yeshuaman's. They provide the information to rule in or out signs and symptoms ie the process of differential diagnoses such as PDs.
There is much within mental health problems that cause tensions with diagnosis. For example, the coping skills and behavioural problems of a parent will impact on the presenting problems of a child so that a diagnosis of ADHD in the child can be very problematic.
Personality disorders are masked by behaviour and mood and can be extremely hard to correctly diagnose. The concept of co-dependency in another topic here suggests another problematic issue.
I think Hulk and others here articulate very well the difficulties in relying on others for help. The practical issue as I see it is to make it through the day regardless of the exact diagnosis underpinning the abuse from a loved one.
I've been around suite101 for seven years, Tami. It's format changes lost a lot of people. As far as 'Health' went, it used to provide far more extensive discussions than it currently does. The lack of feature writer goes to cause...not the arrival of your good self.

Hey Tami .....
Some VERY intruinging (if not VERY HEATED) discussions on MANY different topics and discussions sites grinded to an abrupt
HALT with the "Gap" between Sam leaving and you arriving.
Much of the "Old Guard" I refer to has left.
"Pink" is back ...... glad she is. I never really left, as I checked Suite101 almost on a daily basis hoping for the return of discussions/postings on Mental Disorders.
Although Thank GOD (and this site) I FINALLY figured out "what the hell went WRONG" with my marriage ..... I still personally NEED this site (as I believe others here do) to continue my
FREE education on Mental Disorders and how it not only affects the lives of the victims...... but the sufferers as well.
Tami ...... thank GOD you are back.
Hopefully some of the "Old Guard" will now begin to "Trickle Back" to the various discussions here.
"Hulk"

I think we still have the same problem.
.
Some of the writers don't like to encourage the development of discussion threads; although that doesn't seem to be the situation here.

In response to The C.E. Club? posted by pink101:"Maybe you could get some of the contributing editors to let you in on what they discuss in their forums--the exclusive C.E. Club?"
was a question directed at...Tami???
As you well know, Pink...I have no influence with 'management' here let alone within any discussion in any topic. ![]()
The simple fact is suite101...the whole site not just the 'Health Community' within it...faces a severe discussion drought. Probably because suite101 seeks or has found a new direction. It should bring back 'Forum' and 'Lounge' but it won't so tis one reason I remain a marginal player. And I make no apology for not returning much here when Sam was the man.

In response to The C.E. Club? posted by pink101:YEP...I remember well and how heated things got once daylight hit.
I now see a number of 'feature writers' amonmg the many communities here, that don't link a 'start discussion' to their article. Could be elitism, could be inexperience. I haven't explored the CE arena for quite some time but remember Cat well and communicated offline given common interests unrelated to suite101 politics. I always felt I was on the outer when the CEs 'talked' with you guys. I just assumed there was a massive traffic in non mainstream discussion that among other things, increased the bonding or 'knowledge' among CEs AND favourites among ordinary members.
"Supposing there were no discussion threads available for any purposes here at Suite101.com."
Remember when suite101 advertised it had 500,000 members when it encouraged new FWs and CEs? When the changes first occurred, I wondered what was wrong with ME that I actually perservered searching for where the elusive AND current discussions here could be found.
But I reckon articles will continue. Is it something that you and Boanerges discussed? The number of hits (and how to count them) = getting paid. So, who really cares the quality of a 'hit' or even the article? I would hope CEs are bigger than that but hey...'hope' is like.... ![]()
"That's the problem we had before the change you and Hulk have mentioned."
There's been other changes...some more impacting on individuals than others, some not experienced by all. For example, the 'Health Community' topics unrelated to selling Mr Sam's many books and articles...still operated when he left.

So, are we seeing another phase for Suite101?

Are we going through cycles?

Discussion boards are not fully sick, they're too hardcore...like CUL8R...you know?
Mobile phones now have internet connectivity and Foxtel, music etc. Our generation has enjoyed its prime time so any 'cycle' you allude to tis difficult to see me here.
